Washington Juniors Football
Club was formed in 1990 by the current Club Secretary, Edward
Ord, his wife Marilyn and Derek (Dek) Spencer.
The club began with an under 11’s team, the first to play
competitive league football, on a Sunday in the country.
The team, along with seven others was subsequently invited to
join the Russell Foster Sunday League, which included teams
from under 8’s to 18’s.
All teams played on a Sunday at Washington, with the kick off
time being the same for all matches. Each
subsequent year, another team was formed, which gave a team
at every age group from 11 to 18.
To date, Washington Juniors has eight teams
in the Russell Foster League. These are; Under 11’s,
12’s, 13’s, 14’s, 15’s, 16’s,
17’s and 18’s.
Each team has its own Manager, who runs
with the team from the early stages up to under 18’s.
When finished with the under 18’s team it is hoped that
the Manager will begin again with a young team and continue
the cycle.
Each team is self financing with all equipment
being purchased through subs collected, sponsorship from local
businesses and other fund raising functions.
Club Secretary, Eddie Ord, pays for all league fees, insurance
and pitch fees at the beginning of the season. This is then
collected from the teams by Eddie at monthly managers meetings.
Eddie also organises referees on a weekly basis. All the team
have to do is turn up and play football!
At the end of every season, the club holds
its Presentation Evening. All the teams get together to give
their respective awards which include;
• Player of the Season
• Players Player of the Season
• Managers Player of the Season
Awards are given to every player for representing
Washington Juniors, so at the end of the evening every player
will have received a trophy.
